Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar: Ganga Aarti, Brahma Kund and tips
Har Ki Pauri, "the steps of Hari", is the most sacred ghat in Haridwar. Most pilgrims come to the city for one reason: a dip in the Ganga here.

Brahma Kund
The main bathing spot at Har Ki Pauri is Brahma Kund. It is believed to be one of the places where drops of amrit fell during the Samudra Manthan, which is why the Kumbh Mela is held here.
Ganga Aarti
Aarti is offered to Maa Ganga every morning and every evening. The evening aarti, around sunset, is the one most people come for: large brass lamps, bells, chanting and thousands of diyas floating on the river.
The exact time moves with the seasons, earlier in winter and later in summer, so check locally on the day.
Taking a holy dip
- The current is strong. Always hold the chains along the steps.
- Keep a dry set of clothes and a bag for wet ones.
- Leave footwear at the shoe stands, not on the steps.
- Women can change in the changing rooms near the ghat.
