The story
Maa Sati, Daksha's daughter and Lord Shiva's wife, gave up her life in the yagya fire after her father insulted Shiva. Her story is the reason the Shakti Peeths exist, Maya Devi in Haridwar among them.
Sawan is the busiest month here, as Lord Shiva is believed to stay in Kankhal during it.
